Fall/Winter Shoots – Mega Post! {Calgary Family Photographer}

December 14th, 2011

I’ve come to the realization that if I was to post a blog post from all my sessions this fall, I would still be blogging them in April. So, they are all here, in one MEGA POST! There’s a couple Portrait Parties in here, a lot of studio sessions, and even one outdoor one. Thank [...]

I’ve come to the realization that if I was to post a blog post from all my sessions this fall, I would still be blogging them in April. So, they are all here, in one MEGA POST!

There’s a couple Portrait Parties in here, a lot of studio sessions, and even one outdoor one.

Thank you to all my 2011 clients. It was a very successful year for me, and I am very grateful that each and every one of you chose me to capture your families.

PS – Watch my Facebook Page for a huge special coming up later today!

Introducing “Home Portrait Parties” {Calgary Family Photographer}

October 3rd, 2011

After a very long hiatus from parties, I have decided to start doing them again! Back in 2006-2009, I was co-owner in a Photography company here in Calgary that specialized in Portrait Parties, and it was a lot of fun. When I went on my own, I didn’t do them, mostly because I had a [...]

After a very long hiatus from parties, I have decided to start doing them again! Back in 2006-2009, I was co-owner in a Photography company here in Calgary that specialized in Portrait Parties, and it was a lot of fun. When I went on my own, I didn’t do them, mostly because I had a baby, but also because I had space for a studio in my basement. We are wanting to [actually] develop our basement this winter, and I will be losing my studio temporarily, so I will bring the studio to you!

First – the DEAL! Past hostesses from Shutterbug’s Photography receive 3 FREE digital files, in addition to their Hostess Credit! That’s an extra $120 worth of stuff!

Here’s how a Portrait Party works:
-The Hostess (or Host) invites and schedules families to their house, in 1/2 hour intervals. You need 5 families plus yours (6 total) for the party to happen, but no more than 10 please!
-Each family gets a private 1/2 hour full studio session in the comfort of your home.
-Less than a week later, all families will be able to see their images in a password protected gallery on-line, and order what they wish (no selling for the Hostess!).
-The Hostess receives 20% of the total sales as credit for their prints & digital files.
-All orders are delivered to the Hostess, or they can be picked up from me.

As an introductory special – all parties booked before November 1, 2011 will be FREE for all families (regular $50/family).

Please note – you need a very LARGE space to host a party. With the lights & backdrop, I need a space at least 12′ x 20′ – basements work best, for space and privacy.

Parties are available in Calgary AND Sylvan Lake. Travel costs may be added for outside of town.

Here’s some images from a party I did last winter:

Facing My Fear and Doing it Anyway {Calgary Portrait Party Photographer}

January 28th, 2011

Back in 2006 – 2009, I was part of another Photography company in Calgary and we specialized in Home Portrait Parties. I made a lot of friends through that business, from past Hostesses and guests. Many are Facebook friends of mine, and many have become loyal customers to ‘Shannon Hilton Photography’ as well. One past [...]

One past hostess kept asking me to come and shoot a party, and I just wasn’t ready on my own. For one reason or another (mostly the fact that I had a newborn), I kept saying no.  But, last fall she emailed me and said she wouldn’t take no for an answer…so what could I do?

I was super nervous. It was the first time I had taken my lighting & studio equipment out of the studio. Part of the reason I have a studio, is so I don’t have to set the stuff up all the time. I really don’t like the fear of the unknown. I had purchased &/or rented back-up everything for the party, even picking up my new camera the day before.

So, the big day came. The hostess had her family, and 7 other families scheduled for mini-shoots.

And, I woke up sick.

But, the show must go on, and it did! It went off without a hitch.

A BIG Thank-you to Donna, for making me face my fear & do it anyway!

Here are some of my favourite images from the day. And, if anyone else is interested in hosting a Portrait Party, just send me an email and I’ll send you the deets (ps. the hostess gets free stuff!).
